Protect a Damaged Tooth with a Custom Dental Crown

While fillings can sufficiently repair minor tooth damage and decay, they may not be adequate for more extensive oral health concerns such as broken or weakened teeth. In such cases, a dental crown may be recommended to provide added strength to the remaining tooth structure. Dr. Nicholas G. Rendon offers a variety of dental crown materials to provide patients in Vero Beach, FL, with a personalized solution that meets their functional and aesthetic needs. Whether you have suffered an injury or require added protection after a root canal treatment, Dr. Rendon can provide you with outstanding results and attentive care.

What is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is a restoration that is designed to mimic the appearance and function of your natural tooth. Traditional dental crowns are secured to the tooth using dental cement.

If you are missing a tooth, we often recommend an implant-supported crown. In this case, the crown will be attached to a dental implant to replace the entire structure both below and above the gum line.

Is a Dental Crown Right for Your Needs?

Dental crowns can be used for both restorative and cosmetic concerns, including:

  • Advanced decay
  • Cracked or chipped teeth
  • Worn teeth
  • Intrinsic stains
  • Misshapen teeth
  • Missing teeth

A crown may also be necessary to provide added strength to a tooth that has undergone root canal therapy. During your appointment, Dr. Rendon will evaluate the integrity of your smile to determine if a dental crown is the best treatment option for you.

Materials We Offer

To accommodate the different goals and needs of our patients, we offer a wide range of dental crown materials, such as:

  • Porcelain
  • Porcelain-fused-to-metal
  • IPS e.max®
  • Metal

It is important to note that tooth-colored materials typically cost more than others and may not be fully covered by insurance. In such cases, you may qualify for our Patient Loyalty Discount Plan. We also accept financing through CareCredit® or LendingClub®.

Dental Crown Placement

The dental crown placement process is typically completed in two appointments. During your first visit, Dr. Rendon will need to remove the damaged area of the tooth as well as a small portion around the sides to create space for the crown. He will utilize gentle techniques and a local anesthetic to minimize discomfort. Once the tooth has been reshaped, he will take an impression of your bite. This will be used to create your custom restoration.

A dental crown is a restoration that is designed to mimic the appearance and function of a natural tooth.

Your dental crown will be created in a trusted lab by talented technicians. Typically, this process takes about two to three weeks. During this time, you will be given a temporary crown to protect your tooth from additional damage. You will then return to our practice for the placement of your permanent crown. At this time, the doctor can make any small refinements to ensure the most comfortable and precise fit. Once the crown is secured in place, you will be able to eat, speak, and smile with confidence.
